Introduction to Existential Coaching - e-bok, Engelska, 2019 - Adlibris
2020-04-30 Existential coaching, rooted in and informed by philosophy, is concerned with questions of existence – what it means to be (alive). It is a lived philosophy that promotes engaging courageously with the challenges of life and to face and ultimately embrace its darker sides and inherent paradoxes across its main themes of mortality (death), uncertainty, meaning-making, isolation, freedom This book will appeal to all coaches who wish to work in a client-centred fashion - as Peltier states (p14) existential coaching does not treat clients as if they fit into a pre-established model and allows them to take charge of their own exploration. "The existential approach provides a unique focus on human life that is eminently relevant to coaching. Edited by a key name in existential psychotherapy, the book outlines the parameters of existential coaching in a wide variety of contexts and alongside other models, exploring how this approach can be used in coaching work."--Publisher's website. 2012-04-20 Buy Existential Perspectives on Coaching 2012 by van Deurzen, Emmy, Hanaway, Monica (ISBN: 9780230293861) from Amazon's Book Store.

Both responses are usually followed by 'so what exactly is existential coaching?' The weekend is hosted by Yannick Jacob - author of above mentioned book, former Programme Leader Annotated existential therapies reading list This is a selective, and inevitably subjective, annotated list of key readings on existential therapeutic practice and philosophy. The book was inviting because of its illustrations, which aren’t bad, but it’s poorly edited and incredibly shallow. I appreciate the general introduction to a number of existential philosophers though, and I look forward to reading the work of many of them. Practical and theoretical, the book explores how existential thought can offer a fresh re-orientation of coaching practice that embraces uncertainty, working towards a deeper understanding of the client's world and the challenges they face in the twenty-first century. This comprehensive guide is presented in two parts, bringing together theoretical coaching models and Hanaway's extensive ‘Although existential therapists have written widely on the philosophical perspective behind existential therapy, there has been too little in the way of case studies to illustrate how therapy works in practice. This book fills that gap and more.

"Trained by the best in existential therapy and influenced by the leaders in existential positive psychology or second wave positive psychology (PP2.0), Yannick Jacob’s book makes a unique contribution to the coaching profession by combining the depth of existential philosophy and the clarity and optimism of PP2.0. This excellent book seeks to combine the philosophical teachings of existentialism with the practice of coaching. As the authors suggest, Existential coaching "assumes that people often crave a sense of purpose and meaning" (p xvi) and may help clients to take stock of ways they make things more difficult and less satisfactory for themselves and reconsider how they want to live their lives.
